Slow Food and Crunchy Cons

As you may have guessed, we are in a state of shock after Tuesday's election. And hoping that we won't soon be in a state of socialism. But just in case, we figure the arrival of our Lehman's Non-Electric Catalog was an invitation to start to get off the grid. It makes our chicken butchering of two weekends ago seem especially appropriate. We now have 10 antibiotic-free chickens the size of turkeys in our freezer. Thanks Crumrines! We also have a pullet (young female chicken) in our newly refurbished chicken coop, so we're looking forward to some fresh eggs next spring. Thanks also to Uncle David who allowed Isaac to come cut firewood on his property last weekend. Now our use of LP has dropped considerably.
I recently discovered the Crunchy Con phenomenon (look for the book at your local library - Crunchy Cons: How Birkenstocked Burkeans, gun-loving organic gardeners, evangelical free-range farmers, hip homeschooling mamas, right-wing nature lovers, and their diverse tribe of countercultural conservatives plan to save America (or at least the Republican Party). Or type Crunchy Cons into Google and see what comes up). The book is very interesting.
I have some really good pictures of Caleb to post soon.

Thanks for enlightening me to the Cruncy Con phenomenon. That was a new one to me. I took your advice and Googled the term. Everything sounded okay until the Wikipedia definition listed that proponents hold a skepticism of aspects of free market capitalism. I'll have to do more research... C
I haven't finished the book, but it seems that they are just skeptical from the viewpoint that men are inherently corrupt and that we shouldn't allow greed and consumerism to be the driving force of our economy. I'm interested to learn more about it, too. I'm definitely not buying everything in the book, but the subtitle described us fairly closely so I was curious.

Mercy thinks the chicken killing is "gross"! I'm jealous of your homegrown chickens waiting in your freezer. (-:

I'd look more into all this, but as one of my favorite comics says, "it involves the outdoors, and I'm not a fan."

What does "LP" stand for?
