The chicks have arrived!

This one is the only one with black legs.
It is also the most adventurous.

The dark and spotted ones are supposed to be Silver Penciled Rocks.

The yellow ones in the background should be Blue-Laced Red Wyandottes. Both types are dual-purpose chickens (eggs and meat) so that we can butcher the roosters at around fryer size, and keep the hens for eggs.

Two of the chicks were an impulse buy...Partridge Cochins.

Cochins are a heavy breed with a very fluffy look and feathers down their legs. They aren't considered dual-purpose birds since they lay medium-sized eggs and don't lay them with a great frequency, but they can be used as meat birds due to their large size. I'm primarily interested in them for looks. An interesting side benefit may be that they tend to be good "broody" hens, or hens that will set on eggs to hatch them. Much cheaper than an incubator.

You can't butcher these - they're too cute! :)
