"New house!"

We went to church on Sunday, sort of. At least, we appreciated the architecture of a french catholic church in Colonial Michilimackinac, a reconstructed fort originally built by the french for fur trading. It was taken over by the British, ceded to the U.S., surrendered back to the British in the War of 1812, then re-ceded to the U.S. at the end of the war. It was a very interesting fort and the displays were especially well designed and informative. This was one of the times part of us wished we'd left Sam at home, though, because one couldn't read much with him running to each new building saying "New house! New house!" If you're planning a trip to the fort, and are interested in history, do not listen to the ticket sellers who will tell you it takes 1 1/2 hours to go through. An interested person with plenty of time could easily spend 2 1/2 hours there, especially when you take into account the special events/demonstrations and interpreters going on, as well as an active archaeological dig. We will definitely return.
In Sam's view, the best part was when we found the animals just outside the fort. He LOVES animals. They had a mare and her yearling, and a ewe with three lambs. We discovered that the mare had a performing side to her. She started to yawn once or twice, and we made such a big deal about it, laughing and trying to get pictures, that I am convinced that she got into the part and continued to do it just for us. She must have made that expression 15 or 20 times.
