Day 4: A Walk on Lake Michigan

The fourth day of our trip Isaac fly-fished on the Carp River at our campground in the morning. Sam was never able to calm down and take naps in the trailer, so when his naptime rolled around we took a drive about 1 1/2 hours southwest of our campground to Petoskey State Park on Lake Michigan. I had picked this out as a spot of interest because it is supposed to be a good place to look for "Petoskey Stones," which are pieces of fossilized coral. I think I found a piece, but there weren't a lot of rocks to choose from. This was a very sandy beach (artificial?). The wind blowing in off of the lake made it cooler than we expected, sending us back to the truck for sweaters. Sam enjoyed playing in the waves and building a sand castle. His shorts got so wet and heavy he eventually hopped out of them and ran around with a sweater and a diaper.
Then we went into downtown Petoskey to check out the shops, get some coffee, and eat supper. Our supper there was excellent...Isaac had broiled whitefish (whitefish is the local specialty), and I had battered fish and shrimp. Sam had a hot dog. He has a very adventurous palate (sometimes).
